Flooding can cause significant damage to your home, resulting in costly repairs and ongoing problems. But with the flooding protection in Burlington, you may be eligible for up to $5,000 in coverage for sump pumps, backwater valves, and weeping tile systems.

Not sure where to start? Our experienced team offers a free consultation and handles everything from permits to rebate applications so that you can have peace of mind.

What are the requirements for the rebate?

Searching for “sump pump Burlington rebate”? To qualify for the program, make sure you meet the following general requirements:

  • You must be the homeowner, and your property must be connected to the municipal sewer system; homes with septic systems aren’t eligible.
  • Only work done after July 1, 2016, is covered. Anything completed before that date doesn’t qualify.
  • The subsidy can only be used once per type of work. If you’ve already received it for something, you can’t apply again for the same thing.
  • A building permit may be required, and the work must meet local rules and standards.
  • To qualify for the sump pump installation subsidy, you must disconnect your weeping tiles from the sanitary sewer and install a new sump pump. Both steps are required.
  • All work must be completed by a contractor listed on Halton’s Authorized Contractors List.
  • The valve must be installed inside your home, as exterior installations do not qualify for the Halton Region subsidy. You may also need to confirm that your downspouts and weeping tiles are not connected to the sanitary sewer. You can choose any contractor for this job.
  • The weeping tile disconnection subsidy is only available when completed alongside a sump pump installation. To qualify for up to 100% coverage, the work must be done by an authorized contractor.

Sump Pumps

Sump Pumps

Sump pump systems include a pit that collects water and one or more pumps that turn on automatically when the water level rises. They’re commonly installed in basements or crawl spaces to help prevent flooding. You can choose between submersible pumps (which sit in water) and pedestal pumps (with the motor positioned above the pit). Backup options, like battery- or water-powered pumps, are also available to keep your system running during power outages.

Backwater Valves

Backwater Valve

Backwater valves are installed on your home’s main sewer line to prevent sewage from backing up during heavy rainfall. A flap inside the valve closes automatically when it detects reverse flow, blocking wastewater from entering through drains or toilets. These valves are especially important for homes with basements or ground floors close to street level. You can choose full-system (mainline) valves or ones made for individual fixtures.

Weeping Tile

Weeping tile is a perforated pipe that runs around the foundation of your home to collect and redirect groundwater. It connects to a sump pit and pump to help keep your basement dry. Exterior weeping tile systems stop water before it reaches your foundation, while interior systems handle moisture that’s already entered. Both options offer strong protection against basement flooding.

Some homes have weeping tile, but it’s not connected to anything, while others are connected to the city’s main sanitary drain line. There are also homes that have weeping tile and a sump pump, but the sump pump’s discharge line goes below the house’s foundation. All these design errors can result in wet basement walls, or worse, backup inside the weeping tiles and basement flooding.

Our plumbers can also fix outdated or faulty building designs. For instance, connect the weeping tile to the sump pit, install a sump pump and drill a discharge line and connect it to the outside. Or, eliminate the connection of the weeping tile from the main drain and reconnect it to the sump pit, placing it outside independently.
