What are the requirements for the rebate?

Looking into a sump pump rebate in Halton Hills? Here’s what you need to qualify:

  • You must be the homeowner, and your home must be connected to the municipal wastewater system. Homes with septic tanks do not qualify.
  • Only work completed after July 1, 2016, is eligible.
  • The subsidy can be claimed once per type of upgrade.
  • A building permit might be necessary, and all work must follow local regulations.
  • For the sump pump installation rebate, you must disconnect your weeping tiles from the sanitary sewer and install a new sump pump to qualify for the subsidy. Both steps are required. The work must be performed by a contractor from Halton’s Authorized Contractors List.

Sump Pumps

Sump Pumps

A sump pump system prevents flooding by collecting water in a pit and using one or more pumps that automatically activate when the water level rises. These systems are typically installed in basements or crawl spaces. You can choose between submersible pumps, which sit underwater, and pedestal pumps, where the motor is positioned above the pit. Backup options like battery-powered or water-powered pumps are also available to keep the system running during power outages.

Weeping Tile

Weeping Tiles

Weeping tile is a perforated pipe placed around your home’s foundation to collect and redirect groundwater. It connects to a sump pit and pump to help keep your basement dry. Exterior weeping tile systems stop water before it reaches your foundation, while interior systems manage moisture that has already entered. Both types offer strong protection against basement flooding.

Some homes have weeping tile, but it’s not connected to anything, while others are connected to the city’s main sanitary drain line. There are also homes that have weeping tile and a sump pump, but the sump pump’s discharge line goes below the house’s foundation. All these design errors can result in wet basement walls, or worse, backup inside the weeping tiles and basement flooding.

Our plumbers can also fix outdated or faulty building designs. For instance, connect the weeping tile to the sump pit, install a sump pump and drill a discharge line and connect it to the outside. Or, eliminate the connection of the weeping tile from the main drain and reconnect it to the sump pit, placing it outside independently.
