Sump Pumps

Sump Pump

Sump pump systems are designed to prevent basement flooding by collecting excess water in a pit and automatically pumping it out when the water level rises. These systems are usually installed in basements or crawl spaces. There are two main types of sump pumps: submersible pumps, which operate underwater within the pit, and pedestal pumps, which have the motor mounted above the pit for easier access. To ensure continued operation during power outages, backup options such as water-powered or battery backup sump pumps in Kingston are available.

Weeping Tile

Weeping tile is a drainage system made up of perforated pipes installed around your home’s foundation to collect and redirect groundwater. It typically connects to a sump pit and pump, helping to keep your basement dry. There are two types: exterior weeping tile, which prevents water from reaching the foundation, and interior weeping tile, which manages water that has already seeped in. Both systems provide effective protection against basement moisture and flooding.

Some homes have weeping tile, but it’s not connected to anything, while others are connected to the city’s main sanitary drain line. There are also homes that have weeping tile and a sump pump, but the sump pump’s discharge line goes below the house’s foundation. All these design errors can result in wet basement walls, or worse, backup inside the weeping tiles and basement flooding.

Our plumbers can also fix outdated or faulty building designs. For instance, connect the weeping tile to the sump pit, install a sump pump and drill a discharge line and connect it to the outside. Or, eliminate the connection of the weeping tile from the main drain and reconnect it to the sump pit, placing it outside independently.
