Sump Pumps

Sump pump systems are an effective way to protect your basement from flooding. They collect excess water in a sump pit and automatically pump it away from your home when the water level rises. Typically installed in basements or crawl spaces, these systems come in two types: submersible pumps, which operate underwater inside the pit, and pedestal pumps, where the motor is positioned above the pit for easier access and maintenance. To maintain protection during power outages, you can also find water-powered or battery backup sump pumps.
Weeping Tile
Weeping tile is a drainage system that helps manage groundwater around your home’s foundation and prevents leaks in the basement. It consists of pipes with holes that collect water and send it to a sump pit, where it can be pumped away. An exterior weeping tile system blocks water before it reaches your foundation, while an interior system controls moisture that has already come inside. Both options effectively protect against water intrusion and help keep your basement dry.
Some homes have weeping tile, but it’s not connected to anything, while others are connected to the city’s main sanitary drain line. There are also homes that have weeping tile and a sump pump, but the sump pump’s discharge line goes below the house’s foundation. All these design errors can result in wet basement walls, or worse, backup inside the weeping tiles and basement flooding.
Our plumbers can also fix outdated or faulty building designs. For instance, connect the weeping tile to the sump pit, install a sump pump and drill a discharge line and connect it to the outside. Or, eliminate the connection of the weeping tile from the main drain and reconnect it to the sump pit, placing it outside independently.
