    bathtub drain repair do it yourself

    Bathtub drain pipe repair service as it should be!

    Some of the most insidious drain issues involve bathtubs. In many cases, they go undetected for some time, which can lead to serious water damage to your home or to hazardous problems like mould. These risks make quick repairs essential and require immediate action.

    There are several reasons why a bathtub drain pipe repair may be needed. In most cases, the drain is old, and so much corrosion has formed on the inside of the pipe that it interferes with the draining process, so the tub drains slowly or does not drain at all. Other reasons could be a hole that has formed in the pipe and provokes leaking, or the construction around the tub being not strong and causing problems with the pipe. Either way, bathtub drain repair is a complex and urgent matter, so if you detect a leak or another bathtub drain trouble that you’re not sure you can handle yourself, it’s important to get help from those who can.

    The experts at Superior Plumbing & Heating are trained and experienced in all plumbing aspects, including bathtub drain pipe repair. We have been delivering plumbing services for bathtub drain repair for decades and have built our reputation on the durable and cost-effective solutions offered by our team of dedicated plumbers. We strive daily to delight our customers by bringing full attention to their plumbing needs.

    We will work tirelessly to identify the source of the issue and eliminate it immediately. We know how bothersome a drain breakdown can be, so we will do our job well to minimize your disruption. Our fully licensed and insured plumbing professionals are highly skilled and use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to identify problems related to bathtub drain repair. With seasoned and vigorous staff on board, we can get to the root of the problem in no time and work on it until your bathtub is as good as new!

    Is your bathtub leaking through the ceiling? We know how to help!

    One of the worst feelings a homeowner can have is when he sees a water stain on the ceiling under the tub. The next thought that comes to mind is how much this little trouble will cost. The sooner the cause of the tub drain leaking through the ceiling is identified and eliminated, the cheaper and with less damage to your property, the repair will be.

    The first step to fixing a leak is to pinpoint where it occurred. The most common sources are bathtub drain leaking, bath overflow drain hole or cracked bathtub.

    A leaky bathtub drain is the most frequent cause of water damage in the bathroom. It occurs when the drain and the piping connected to it under the tub become loose, causing the seals to break or cracks to form. This drip, even if slow, will cause damage to the infrastructure under the tub.

    When it comes to leaks, more often than not, water simply comes through loose valves and connections. If you make a habit of having your pipes and valves regularly tightened and sealed, you’ll probably never have to deal with the catastrophe that can result from a bathtub leak through the ceiling.

    If the problem has already arisen, damaged seals should always be repaired by plumbing professionals, such as the Superior Plumbing & Heating team. This process may involve replacing plumbing components and setting up a watertight seal. Remember that leaks can cause more than just discoloration and damage to your ceiling. They can lead to mould, creating a serious health hazard to your family. Once our licensed plumber has detected and repaired the leak, the second step of restoration is to repair existing water damage. Water damage restoration specialists will dry the ceiling and drywall and eliminate mould. Call a repairman as soon as possible to open up the walls and floor, fix the pipes and undo the water damage. Leaving this problem to fester on its own is incredibly dangerous and most often ends in disaster. In addition, fixing an issue of this severity will not be easy and should only be done by a professional.

    If your home has suffered from water leakage and you don’t know what to do, contact our local Superior Plumbing & Heating professionals for help and get your home back to the pre-damage condition in no time!

    Excellent and durable bathtub drain pipe replacement

    Even high-quality drain lines eventually fail and begin to leak. For these reasons, replacing pipes in the bathroom sooner or later becomes a necessity. Corrosion and clogging, as well as rust and cracks, are the main factors that lead to bathtub drain replacement. You need to pay attention to the drain pipes of your bathtub to ensure that water stays in the tub when someone wants to take a bath and drains when you take a shower. The process of replacing pipes includes:

    • Purchasing the drainage pipes. It is necessary to make measurements of the drain pipe and drainage hole, as well as make sure that they meet all local plumbing code requirements;
    • Disconnecting the assembled parts. It is necessary to turn off the water supply in your place, find the drain pipes location, disconnect the drain pipe and overflow connection from the tub with a drain wrench, remove the tub and place it on a hard surface;
    • Cutting and fixing of drainage pipes. Verify if the hole in the tub is the same as the drain fitting, make sure the overflow and drain fitting are facing each other before attaching them to the drain pipe; it’s a trial and error process, and you may need to re-adjust; when everything is a perfect fit, cement them together;
    • P-Trap attachment. Install the drain pipe and the overflow pipe with the P-trap – they should be a certain distance from the top of the drain fitting; small modifications may require re-cutting;
    • Connecting the tub to the pipes. Place the center of the tub over the marked drain fitting, secure it in place; attach the overflow and drain pipes to the tub with the drain wrench; install the rubber bath drain gasket and then the bath drain flange in the appropriate places; turn on the water supply after everything is secured and examine the pipes for leaks.

    As you can see, replacing a drain pipe is quite a laborious and time-consuming process. If you don’t have the skills or time to do the job yourself, get help from our professional plumbers. Replacement of drain pipes, performed by qualified craftsmen, will save you from further plumbing complications. Usually, all work is done in the shortest possible time, and the cost of their services is fully offset by the smooth operation of the pipeline!

    Leaking bathtub drain pipe? We’ll eliminate it easily!

    Unsurprisingly, the bathroom is packed with many plumbing supplies, so it’s no wonder this part of the house is susceptible to leaks like no other. More often than not, people don’t even realize they have a bathtub leak until their home has suffered significant damage and serious problems, such as mould and mildew.

    Leaking bathtubs are a real danger, which means that as soon as you realize your bathtub is leaking, you need to take steps to prevent water from destroying more of your home. While bathtub leaks can be hazardous, they are often rather easy to handle when they are noticed and reported on time. The signs of a leaking bathtub drain pipe are:

    • Water stains on the ceiling or beams underneath it;
    • Uneven flooring near the tub or wet flooring in adjacent rooms (if the tub is on a concrete slab).

    How can this issue be fixed?

    • Determine the leak origin. Because there are so many plumbing items in a bathroom, it’s easy to make a mistake while determining the cause of a leak, which will make it harder to eliminate. In some cases, water travels some distance along the outside of the pipe before it drips and becomes visible. Before proceeding with the repair, examine the location of the leak to properly identify its nature.
    • Remove the drain and caulk the area where it is located with new plumbing putty if a faulty seal causes the leak.

    If you’re not even sure you have plumbing leaks, we know how to help! Our experts use plumbing camera inspection to locate any leaks in your pipes, no matter how deep or small. It allows us to see the condition of all your plumbing systems in real time, so we will be able to find the leaks really fast and know exactly how to repair them.

    There is no such thing as a “small” leak issue. A bathtub leak may seem like a minor problem, and hopefully, yours is, but if you need help detecting or fixing a leak, a professional plumber makes the difference. The experts at Superior Plumbing & Heating provide emergency leak detection and emergency pipe leak repair services and will help identify and repair your bathtub pipe leak before it ruins your home or your health. Rather than googling “how to fix a leaking bathtub drain pipe,” just give us a call the moment you notice, or even just assume you notice a leak, and we will implement the most accurate and efficient solution!

    How does a bathtub drain work? Types and diagrams

    The equipment that allows water to leave the tub does not attract the same aesthetic attention as the equipment that brings water into it, but the drain and overflow assembly are just as necessary for a fully functioning tub as the faucet. After all, the water entering the tub must leave it. Drain and overflow assemblies fall into two categories: those that are operated from above the water line, and those that are operated from below, with their elements forming a such called bathtub drain plumbing diagram.

    • Trip Lever with Pop-Up Stopper. This assembly is the most complex because it has metal parts running through both the effluent and overflow pipes. A toggle lever on the outside of the overflow plate raises and lowers a metal rod connected to a rocker’s arm in the overflow pipe. When the lever is raised, a spring pushes one end of the rocker down. This causes the other end, connected to the pop-up plug, to rise. When the lever is lowered, the plug goes down and closes the drain. All that metal inside the pipes can pick up a lot of hair and other debris, so periodic cleaning is essential. Many plumbers and craftsmen are used to this assembly, but its popularity is declining.
    • Trip lever with a plunger. This assembly simplifies the job by completely removing the waste pipe’s metal. The release lever operates the plunger. When the lever is raised, the plunger is lowered, shutting off the flow of water from the waste pipe to the drain pipe. Instead of an opening plug, a grate is installed on the bathtub drain. Although the plunger assembly is less complicated than the pop-up plug assembly, it may not be very simple. If the plunger is adjusted too low, the water will not drain effectively; if adjusted too high, the tub will not hold water.
    • Cable drain. A variation of the overflow drain is an assembly in which the hardware inside the pipes is replaced by a metal rope that connects the handle on the overflow drain to an opening plug. The cable runs along the outside of the pipes, and turning the handle opens and closes the plug. Cabledrain models are available from several manufacturers. Some of them are transitioning to this assembly and are doing away with lever-operated models.

    Knowing the basic principles of how a bathtub drain functions, you can at least assess whether you can fix the problem yourself or if you need to call a specialist.

    Superior Plumbing & Heating has plumbing specialists on standby at all times. We can respond to any plumbing repair request, big or small, as soon as you need our help, which can be right away! Should a plumbing emergency occur and you can’t afford to wait for help, we will send a technician out to you as soon as possible with a fully stocked truck. You don’t have to worry about overtime, extra prices, or waiting. Just give us a ring as soon as you notice an issue, and we’ll take care of the rest!
