Expert Trenchless Drain Replacement
During operation, underground utilities may be affected by several unfavourable factors: deflection from their weight, the effect of soil pressure, thermal stresses, external corrosion, clogging with various deposits that narrow the flow area of pipes, etc. As a result, over time, it becomes necessary to reconstruct and replace them. The consequences of disrupted pipelines can be the sinking of the ground, subsidence of foundations of buildings and structures, soil contamination, and flooding of areas and underground structures.
With trenchless drain replacement, it is possible to carry out work without digging the ground. This eliminates the need to block the road, restore the asphalt pavement, disrupt existing sewer communications, and destroy trees. This method is relevant when working on unstable soils where frequent digging is contraindicated, and these are not all the advantages:
- significant reduction in the material costs;
- reducing the time for laying the pipeline;
- minimal damage to the environment;
- the possibility of laying a pipe in the winter season;
Superior Plumbing & Heating has a wealth of experience in trenchless pipe replacement, a professional team, and state-of-the-art equipment, which allows us to carry out such work in the shortest possible time. We introduce new technologies, apply modern developments, and create all the conditions to provide the best services every time. Our goal is a quality result!
What are the features of trenchless sewer replacement?
It is no secret that sewer systems are subject to extreme wear and corrosion. Given the development density and the underground level’s saturation with various pipelines and channels, it becomes clear that it is incredibly difficult to replace them. Moreover, the traditional method – open – is accompanied by damage to the asphalt concrete pavement and neighbouring lines, digging pits that interfere with traffic, and other unpleasant moments.
Under these conditions, the most optimal method proposed by our company is trenchless sewer replacement. To date, there are several implementation schemes, but the most popular are:
- Sliding laying — is a trenchless sewer repair method. It involves a “pipe in pipe” installation, where the epoxy liner is placed in a damaged sewer but is usually smaller in diameter.
- Pipe rupture — this is the second next repair method in which the old sewer is torn and broken, and a new one is installed in its place. A bursting head is pulled through the old pipe, which breaks it, dragging and laying the new pipe in its place.
- And the last method, which is called the technology of the future — Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP). A resin-saturated liner is inserted into the pipeline, filled with epoxy materials hardening from high temperatures, and they are given the correct shape. Then they stick to the walls of the damaged pipe. Next, water or steam is supplied through the sewer to harden these materials.
Our company offers you a more rational and profitable way to perform trenchless replacement of sewers of any type at affordable prices.
What if a trenchless pipe replacement is needed?
Trenchless replacement of pipelines is a rational way to purposefully repair worn-out sections of systems, not only sewers but also water pipes. This method is necessary when the pipes are heavily worn, have corrosion, and, importantly, it is required to maintain the original diameter of the pipe flow section.
Trenchless pipe replacement requires only one or two access points. Usually, these are small openings on both sides of the house. Plumbers can create another one by pulling out the toilet and using the floor connection, but you will agree that this is much better than breaking tiles or the walls of the house. The damage from the trenchless method is several times less than from the traditional one.
There are two types of trenchless pipe replacement: an epoxy-impregnated liner to create a new pipe inside an old one, or where a rupture head rips open an old pipe and installs a new HDPE pipe in its place. Both of these methods guarantee a service life of up to 50 years, but their use is possible if the pipes are up to standard. If not, before that, they are cleaned.
The qualified masters of Superior Plumbing & Heating have at their disposal all the necessary equipment, with the help of which trenchless replacement of pipes is carried out. Such a repair of the pipeline will cost several times cheaper than the complex replacement of a worn-out system in the traditional way. But these are not all the advantages of this method; there’s more:
- There is no need for excavation work which greatly speeds up the process, especially in emergency cases where you need to replace the drainage urgently;
- Restoration of the territory after completion of repair work is not required;
- The compactness of the equipment used makes it possible to work in the basements of buildings, wells of engineering networks, and other cramped conditions.
Why is there a need for trenchless sewer repair?
In the city, the stable functioning of communications is especially important. Their technical condition directly affects the quality of life of the metropolis. In this connection, proper operation and timely repair of water supply and sewer systems are necessary. The deterioration of old pipes, breaks, deflections, and disconnections lead to a decline in their throughput, and often to emergencies. However, replacing pipelines with a trench method has significant disadvantages:
- Damage to the roadway, sidewalks, or lawns with the ensuing consequences;
- The presence of trenches provides inconvenience for residents of the area, a change in the movement of urban transport, and other problems;
- The use of heavy construction equipment is accompanied by noise, which affects the environment.
Trenchless is the exact opposite of open recovery options. All these shortcomings are absent; advantages are added — high economic efficiency, minimum renovation time, and environmental safety. Trenchless sewer repair methods completely or partially exclude earthworks, preserve infrastructure, and accelerate the restoration of communications. Here are 4 main ways to repair pipelines:
- Lining the pipe by inserting an epoxy-impregnated gasket into the old pipe;
- Epoxy spray lining inside the damaged pipe;
- Rupture of the old pipe, in case it needs to be completely replaced;
- And the last is the insertion of a smaller diameter pipe into the damaged one, but this method still requires digging a small hole.
Trenchless pipe repair maintains the capacity of the repaired system. The cost depends on the chosen method and the diameter of the communications. In our company, the estimate is calculated individually, based on the complexity of the tasks and the amount of work. This method is much cheaper than traditional repairs, which involve digging trenches, removing old communications, and laying new pipelines.
Superior Plumbing & Heating uses state-of-the-art technologies to complete the work within the stipulated time frame, ensuring the high quality and performance of the system. By entrusting the repair of the sewer to our masters, you can be sure that modern environmental and technological standards will carry out all the work.
How is trenchless pipe lining produced?
Trenchless sewerage is an effective alternative to the old open options for laying communication networks. The advantage of the method has already been proven in practice by hundreds of kilometres of work performed. The main advantage is the absence of the need to open the soil. Such methods of laying sewer systems allow not to disturb the urban infrastructure and do not spoil the urban landscape.
The best and often the only way to lay new pipelines in urban areas, with a large number of utilities and severe administrative restrictions today, is trenchless technologies. But trenchless pipe lining is complicated since the participation of a hydraulic calibrator and a pump that pumps oil is necessary. The main methods of closed laying of pipelines include:
- Horizontal directional drilling. It involves the installation of pipes in a pre-prepared well. Our workers use a drilling rig and auxiliary equipment (locating system, drilling mud mixing system, pipe welding machines) to perform the work.
- Controlled puncture method. It is used for trenchless sewer installation in soft soils. Master equip a hole for a new pipe by compacting the soil and is performed using a controlled puncture installation.
- Destruction method. Installation of a new pipeline in place of worn-out communications without removing old pipes. Here, a hydraulic destroyer is used, which destroys the old pipeline, and presses its fragments into the walls of the tunnel while pulling a new pipe.
The advantages of this method are invaluable:
- Work can be carried out in hard-to-reach places at any time of the year;
- Material and labour costs are lower, often significantly, than with trenching;
- The whole complex of works is carried out in a short time;
- After the pipe laying is completed, there is no need to restore roads and the natural landscape. Almost no landscaping is required.
